Lice are wingless insects white, which exist on the human scalp. The scientific name for head louse is Pediculus humanus capitis. Generally white in color, but again in a brown or red blood after feeding. They can not fly or jump. They can not survive longer than 24 hours from the head. Clean hair is preferred lice and their nits can be kept cleaner hair better than oily hair.
Lice eggs glued to the hair and are about ½ cm above the scalp. A child has as many as a dozen live lice on the head when he/she is attacked by lice once. Daily lay 6-7 eggs multiply, spreading more and more lice. The eggs will hatch in 7 to 10 days and lice 8-9 days to mature and start again, laying eggs. Lice can survive and prosper because of their small size and rapid cycle, maturity and reproduction. The most common symptom is constantly itchy scalp, especially around the ears, nape and crown. There are many products designed to treat this problem, but most of them are pesticides and are harmful to health.
Home Remedies for Removing Head Lice
There are a number of non medical remedies that have been used over the ages to treat lice infestations. Although there is little evidence that these are effective, many pediatricians recognize that they are natural in nature, however their effectiveness is highly questioned. However, we at Comb It Out Lice Removal Salon believe that these ineffective home remedies just prolong your child’s misery as they do take longer to work and as stated above they aren’t effective. They may just serve to cover up the problem not solve it.
Home Remedies Just Don’t Work.
Smothering lice with mayonnaise or olive oil will not work either. Lice have a breathing system that is also protected by this hard exoskeleton. We have had people tell us, their child slept with a head of mayo for 8 hours. This is a waste of time!
There are people who give advice online to put kerosene and mouth wash on your child’s head. THIS DOES NOT WORK, AND IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS IN EVERY WAY! Do NOT put these types of products on your child’s head. It can burn their scalp, their eyes, and cause hair loss.
Mayonnaise and vinegar: – Apply mayonnaise to the hair and scalp and cover the hair with shower caps. Leave it on for at least 4-5 hours. This ensures that the lice suffocate and die. Then they get into the shower caps. Wash your hair with vinegar. Repeat this procedure after 7-10 days.. However the nits still remain and those can hatch and cause a recurrence.
Lime juice and garlic paste: – Mix 1 teaspoon lime juice as a garlic paste. Apply it on scalp and leave at least 30 minutes. Then wash hair. Repeat this procedure after 7-10 days. The downside is that you have to keep reapplying and you smell like garlic. No one wants to be around you too!
Custard apple: – Take raw apple pudding. Ground to powder, the seed. Keep your powder stored in an airtight box. The night before bedtime, apply the powder on the scalp, and head tie with a cloth bandage.
Almonds and lemon: – Soak overnight 10-12 almonds and shredded it in the morning. Add three to four tablespoons of lemon juice, and apply the mixture on the head about one or two hours.
Neem and coconut oil: – In a glass bottle to keep three to four Neem leaves in about 100 ml of coconut oil. Keep the bottle covered so that the essence of sound radiated Neem leaves in coconut oil. Apply this oil on the scalp and then comb your hair regularly with a strong comb.
